Korie Genius was born in Kingston, Jamaica and grew up in Brooklyn, NY. He has studied various styles of hip hop, and specializes in Dancehall and styles like Flexing, Krumping and Popping. Korie is always open to new styles and new ideas and loves to broaden his visions of dance every day and does that by taking classes and training with the best choreographers in the city. He has been performing for over a decade and has been in various venues all around America. Korie has been seen on the CBS morning show performing with reggae artist Mr.Vegas (2010), Also with reggae Artist Mr.Lexx in Orlando Florida (2010) International reggae, soca, hiphop artist Bunji Garlin "Brrrt" music video (2007), Rebel Star "Look what I can do" music video (2007), Smiggz "Runaway" music video (2008) and has performed at numerous shows around the tristate area such as Sirens After Dark by Rhapsody james, Sybarite Collective, Carnival, Michael Jackson 25th anniversary to name a few. Currently he works with his company BlackGold who perform and teach nationwide. Korie has been teaching children and adults for many years and makes his classes fun and positive, allowing everyone to bring their personality into their dance, and learn many styles of hip hop. Korie is a growing artist that always strives for the best. His goal is to pass on his passion and unique style as well as making an impact with his dancing and choreographies.
Korie created a very popular dancehall workshop, “Badda Dan Dem,” which brings choreographers and teachers from all over the world together to share their passion for dancehall.
Korie strives to make his class accessible to all levels of learners by mixing simple grooves and movements with more intricate choreography. He infuses each class with authentic dances that help the student to understand the roots of dancehall. Korie is very passionate about his craft and this shows through in each class he shares with his students. His goal as a teacher is to share his love of dancehall and to help all his students feel confident in the style.
BLACKGOLD is three choreographers working together sharing their love for dancehall. Hanna Herbertson, Korie “Genius” & Kendell “History” Hinds are a dynamic, versatile trio that are pushing Dancehall choreography forward in a new way. They are all trained in other styles like for example hip hop, gliding, flexing, popping, jazz & house.
BLACKGOLD was founded in Sept 2009 and in a short period of time they have accomplished a lot. They performed at Mad Decent’s Block Party alongside Max Glazer of Federation Sound + artists like Mr Lexx, Ricky Blaze & Shelley. In June 2010 they danced on the CBS Early show alongside Mr. Vegas & New Kingston Band in front of 3 million viewers! They also recently performed with legendary artist Mr Lexx at Atlantic Records Core DJ event in Orlando, FL. Blackgold has also spent some time working on stage coaching with artist Esco Da Shocker. As a group they had the opportunity to open up for a well known artist by the name of Collie Buddz at Santos Party House. This group has performed numerous industry showcases such as the Sybarite showcase and at Rhapsody James “Sirens After Dark”. BlackGold has also worked with reggae/dancehall artists Cherry L & Donny Yardas on stage performances, music videos etc. Blackgold has been seen at NYC marathon, Williamsburg Charter High School and at the hottest nightclubs in the city and the boroughs showcasing their unique dancehall style.
